FAQ

Frequently asked questions

Please find answers to frequently asked PlayHouse questions below. If you have additional questions, please email us at playhouse@peoriaparks.org. Thank you!

Memberships:

Can frozen memberships be refunded instead of unfrozen?

All memberships will be unfrozen June 1. Unfortunately, we cannot offer refunds on frozen memberships. We also cannot transfer memberships to other park district locations.

How can I check my membership status?

You can check your membership status by emailing PlayHouse@peoriaparks.org. Please include your full name / the name the membership is under in your email.

Calling all members! All PlayHouse memberships were extended by 443 days. New memberships cards with your updated expiration date are available for pick-up during your next trip to the PlayHouse.

Do you still have admissions times for just members?

Yes! We have members-only Tuesday mornings from 9am – noon.

What discounts do you have for families with lower incomes?

The PlayHouse is committed to serving ALL families, regardless of income; we do this through our Explorer Program which offers reduced price admission and membership. If you are a recipient of LINK or WIC, or are a participant in the Peoria Park District Scholarship program, you may purchase tickets for $3, or a family membership for $15, by calling our Recreation Desk at 309-682-1200 or visiting the Noble Center, 1125 W Lake Avenue.

PlayHouse Programs and Exhibits:

Are all your exhibits open?

Real Tools (our Maker Space) and the Hayloft reading area are closed; all other exhibit spaces are open. Please note, certain items have been removed from the floor to ensure that everything children touch can be cleaned and disinfected between PlayTimes.

Will your Maker Space be open?

The PlayHouse’s Real Tools space will remain at the Noble Center and be open select Saturdays. Please visit our website to see upcoming Real Tools dates.

What will be different when I visit?

Toys and exhibit components that cannot be cleaned frequently have been removed; this includes books, costumes, and stuffed animals.

Will you still be doing Tot Time, StoryTime, and other programs?

There will be no programs offered at the PlayHouse during this time but we will continue to do things offsite. Join us for weekly Preschool Parties at Forest Park Nature Center on Friday mornings!

Will there be outdoor options for families that feel safer outdoors?

PlayHouse will be adding new outdoor activities, which can be checked out by museum visitors. These include fort-building, bubbles, nature activities, croquet, and more!

Are outdoor activities available to the general public?

Outdoor activities are only available with museum admission or membership, and must be checked out at the front desk. These include bubbles, a Nature Exploration kit, fort building, bags, horseshoe, and croquet.

COVID-19 Precautions:

How will the space be sanitized?

The museum and all exhibits and toys are cleaned and disinfected daily using this non-toxic spray shown to kill the COVID-19 virus. The disinfectant is applied with an electrostatic sprayer that ensures it clings to all surfaces, and given ample time to dry/evaporate.

Will staff be cleaning items once kids are finished playing with them?

Staff will clean high touch surfaces throughout the day. In addition, we have “Yuck Tubs” throughout the building; these are a safe place to put toys that have been played with.

Who is required to wear a face mask?

Everyone! Face masks must be worn by all guests ages two and over in all indoor areas of the PlayHouse. Face shields will be available for purchase for guests who cannot wear masks for medical reasons. Masks are not required for outdoor activities or at picnic tables on the porch as long as there is space to socially distance between families.

Do vaccinated people still need to wear masks?

Yes, all visitors need to wear masks indoors, regardless if they are vaccinated or not: more than 50% of the PlayHouse’s visitors are under the age of 12 and not yet eligible for vaccination. People who are not vaccinated can still be asymptomatic carriers of the COVID-19 virus. Out of an abundance of caution, we ask that all visitors continue to wear a mask during their visit to the PlayHouse. Please stay home if you are experiencing any symptoms of or have been exposed to COVID-19.

Visitors who check-out our outdoor activities may choose to socially distance from other families outdoors, and remove their masks.

Birthdays and Rentals:

Will I still be able to book a rental?

Yes! There will be no rentals during our regular hours, but rentals are available during times when we are closed to the general public. Visit this page for more information about rentals.
