PlayHouse visitors must follow safety protocols

Thank you in advance for helping us keep our community safe, and helping other visitors feel comfortable. Our current safety protocols include:

  • Face masks must be worn by all guests ages two and over in all areas. We will have masks for sale at the PlayHouse if needed by visitors, as well as ideas for helping you ensure masks fit well so that they cover your nose as well as your mouth.
  • When entering the museum, you will be asked to complete a health check. If any of the following are true, we ask that you not visit the museum; visitors who have these symptoms will not be allowed to enter:

    • Exposure to a COVID-19-infected individual within the previous 14 days
    • You have within the past 14 days been to states affected by the Chicago Emergency Travel Order
  • Hand sanitizer stations are available thoughout the museum; we ask that guests sanitize or wash hands between exhibits / throughout their visit

  • No food is allowed in the museum. Visitors are welcomed to eat outside the museum in Glen Oak Park or on our porch.

Here are some of the additional precautions the PlayHouse is taking to ensure your safety:

  • The museum and all exhibits and toys are cleaned and disinfected thoroughly after each rental using non-toxic spray shown to kill the COVID virus.

  • Selected exhibit components will not be available due to COVID-related restrictions. These include:

    • Costumes, dolls, stethescopes, and fabric and plush toys have been removed
    • Kinetic sand has been removed from the sand table
    • Books and bean bags have been removed; the hayloft (reading area and flying pig interactive) is closed.
    • Real Tools has been moved to the Noble Center, as our space is too small to allow for social distancing. See our calendar for workshop times; these are free for members and $10 for non-members.

COVID-19 Precautions:

How will the space be sanitized between PlayTimes?

The museum and all exhibits and toys are cleaned and disinfected thoroughly after each PlayTime session using this non-toxic spray shown to kill the COVID-19 virus. The disinfectant is applied with an electrostatic sprayer that ensures it clings to all surfaces, and given ample time to dry/evaporate before the next play session.

Will staff be cleaning items once kids are finished playing with them?

Staff will clean high touch surfaces during play sessions. In addition, we have “Yuk Tubs” throughout the building; these are a safe place to put toys that have been played with.

Who is required to wear a face mask?

Face masks must be worn by all guests ages two and over in all indoor areas of the PlayHouse. Face shields will be available for purchase for guests who cannot wear masks for medical reasons. Masks are not required for outdoor activities or at picnic tables on the porch as long as there is space to socially distance between families.

Do vaccinated people still need to wear masks?

Yes, all visitors need to wear masks indoors, regardless if they are vaccinated or not. Visitors who check-out our outdoor activities may choose to socially distance from other families outdoors, and remove their masks.

Birthdays and Rentals:

Will I still be able to book a rental?

Yes! There will be no rentals during our regular hours, but rentals are available during times when we are closed to the general public. Visit this page for more information about rentals.
