Artist Assistant

POSITION: 30-40 hours per week from July 21 - August 4

DUTIES:

  • Preparing materials.
  • Assisting with installation of artwork.
  • Working with children.
  • Assisting in other assigned tasks for this project as needed.
  • Assisting with related special events, Including First Friday, as assigned.
  • Providing support in other areas of daily facility operations.
  • Following all safety procedures that pertain to the duties performed and support all aspects of the Park District’s safety program.
  • Demonstrating commitment to museum values and goals of excellence in learning, equality, collaboration and customer service.
  • Performing all other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or GED (required); additional college course work and/or Bachelor’s Degree is preferred.  Will accept a combination of education and experience if closely related to the job skills needed for the position.
  • Interest in working directly with children and families.  Ability to be flexible, detail oriented and team oriented.
  • Experience in making art, including sculpture and/or mixed media work is preferred.
  • Experience installing art in a museum or gallery setting is preferred.
  • Interest in and ability to perform hands-on work.  Excellent troubleshooting and problem solving skills desired.
  • Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
  • Ability to work independently and in a team environment.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule.

The PlayHouse is hiring for the following year-round job:

Development Coordinator

POSITION: Part time, 10-15 hours per week

DUTIES:

  • Manage the PlayHouse donor database, including entering donors/donations, and updating donor information accurately and in a timely fashion. Ensure that records are up-to-date and accurate.
  • Maintain paper files related to donors and development.
  • Create correspondence and make calls to major donors.  Create and perform other donor acknowledgement procedures as needed and appropriate.
  • Run reports and analyze data from donor database system and other data sources related to PlayHouse donations and potential supporters. Use data to identify and solicit prospects for new donors.
  • Provide reliable support for development events, direct mail, fundraisers and other initiatives.
  • Develop professional relationships with donors and potential donors.
  • Report accurately on development initiatives, including attendees, amounts raised, etc.
  • Recommend improvements to current Development processes.
  • Identify and write materials for campaigns (annual impact reports, end of year appeals, thank you notes, etc).
  • Follow all safety procedures that pertain to the duties performed and support all aspects of the Park District’s safety program.
  • Demonstrating commitment to museum values and goals of excellence in learning, equality, collaboration and customer service.
  • Performing all other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school degree/GED required.  College degree is preferred.  Will accept a combination of education and experience if closely related to the job skills needed for the position.
  • Previous database management experience preferred.
  • Experience with fundraising / development preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft Office and strong computer literacy required.
  • Ability to multitask and meet deadlines.  Solid organizational and time management skills.

Monticello Education Intern

POSITION: Part time, 28 hours per week for one year, beginning August 2018.

DUTIES:

  • Coordinate field trips, including:
    • Communicate with teachers interested in booking field trips.
    • Complete field trip bookings in museum calendar and in the museum’s booking system.
    • Assist in setup and facilitation of interactive field trip experiences, including leading selected field trips.
  • Assist with education events and programs; design activities or components of programs.
  • Assist with booking additional programs, including birthday parties and rentals, as needed.
  • Attend PlayHouse staff meetings.
  • Follow and support all aspects of the Park District’s safety program.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • College degree is required. Degree in Education, Museum Studies, Art or Early Childhood Development a plus.
  • Experience in a formal or informal educational setting working with children 0-9 years of age. Previous experience in a museum or with customer service is a plus.
  • Must have excellent communication and customer service skills.
  • Experience or desire to work with a highly diverse audience in a busy atmosphere.
  • Must have experience or interest in working with children and families in an informal educational setting.
  • Ability to interact positively and spontaneously with visitors.
  • Knowledge of basic telephone and PC functions including Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to contribute to an atmosphere of teamwork and positive energy among staff and volunteers.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously with a minimal degree of supervision.

OTHER:

  • Stipend is $15,000 for one-year internship, to be paid in increments every 2 weeks
  • Typical work hours are assigned and performed on weekdays, 9am – 4pm, but may include some evening and weekend hours.
  • Reports to the Education Manager.
  • This internship has a study/research component, which includes the opportunity to travel to other museums and meet with staff there, and / or attend regional conferences.

The PlayHouse hires for the following part-time positions as needed, and accepts applications for these positions year-round:

Maker Playologist - Experience Facilitator

POSITION: Part Time (average 20 - 25 hours per week).

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Successful candidates must have experience and comfort with basic carpentry tools. Must have demonstrated experience building or constructing things from a variety of materials, such as wood, metal, plastic, reclaimed/recycled materials.
  • Experience or interest in interacting with and leading children 0-8 years of age in open-ended art or building related projects.
  • Must have experience or interest in working with children and families in an informal educational setting.
  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Some college preferred. Experience in a similar role may be substituted for all of part of the educational requirements.
  • Must have excellent customer service skills.
  • Experience or desire to work with a highly diverse audience in a busy atmosphere.
  • Ability to interact positively and spontaneously with visitors.
  • Ability to contribute to an atmosphere of teamwork and positive energy among staff and volunteers.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously with a minimal degree of supervision.

DUTIES:

  • Work in the Real-Tools exhibit, interacting with visitors as they learn how to use hand carpentry tools and complete carpentry projects.
  • Facilitate visitors’ play experiences in a welcoming, enthusiastic, and open-ended manner.
  • Deliver high quality customer service by answering questions and assisting visitors.
  • Monitor the orderly operation of the museum including communicating rules to visitors/field trips and following safety standards and sanitation requirements. Routinely walk through galleries and straighten as needed.
  • Continually organize exhibition spaces throughout the day. Perform cleaning and resetting of exhibitions for opening and closing procedures daily. Spot clean as needed.
  • Assist in setup, delivery and visitation.
  • Report supply needs and exhibition repairs or maintenance to supervisor in a timely manner.
  • Lead planned and impromptu activities as necessary.
  • Report all visitor comments, complaints and trends to Operations Manager in a timely manner.
  • Follow and support all aspects of the Park District’s safety program.
  • Attend all staff meetings as required.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

OTHER:

  • Starting pay rate is $10.00 per hour.
  • Typical work hours are assigned and performed during the 8am – 5pm time period while the facility is open, seven days per week. Some hours will be assigned outside after 5pm for events and programs, as necessary.
  • Includes weekdays, weekends and some evenings and holidays.

Admissions and Retail Attendant

POSITION: Part Time (Average 24 - 29 hours per week)

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High school diploma or equivalent required. Some college preferred. Extensive experience in a similar role may be substituted for all of part of the educational requirements.
  • Minimum of one year experience in a customer service role, ideally a museum or other visitor attraction setting.
  • Must have excellent customer service, problem solving and organizational skills.
  • Must have experience or interest in working with children and families in a highly diverse informal educational setting.
  • Practical understanding of ages and stages of child development.
  • Knowledge of basic telephone and PC functions including Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to maintain focus and professional demeanor in a highly demanding atmosphere.
  • Ability to create an atmosphere of teamwork and positive energy among staff and volunteers. Experience working as or with volunteers preferred.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously with a minimal degree of supervision.
  • Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with co-workers and the general public.
  • Must be able to interact effectively and respectfully with adults as well as children of all ages.
  • Must demonstrate an ongoing commitment to learning and innovation.

DUTIES:

  • Open and close Welcome Desk computer systems according to defined procedures.
  • Perform cashier duties including handling cash, check and charge transactions.
  • Promote and sell PlayHouse Children’s Museum admissions, memberships and programs.
  • Clean and maintain an organized and well-stocked front desk area and assist in exhibition cleaning and organizing on a daily basis. Perform spot cleaning in other areas as needed.
  • Interact with museum visitors by answering questions about the Peoria PlayHouse Museum, Peoria Zoo and Luthy Botanical Gardens programs and ticket options.
  • Interact with the general public and privately booked groups, school groups, and birthday parties and ensure an excellent experience for all visitors.
  • Light clerical work: answering and directing phone calls, data entry and other duties as assigned.
  • Check in and direct guests for museum workshops and programs.
  • Manage lost and found area.
  • Attend all staff meeting s and trainings as required.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.

OTHER:

  • Pay rate is $10.00 per hour.
