This summer the PlayHouse is once again a Blue Star Museum! Currently serving military, including National Guard and Reserve, and their immediate families are invited to join us at the PlayHouse on June 6 to kick off this program with our partners Blue Star Families and Ameren.

Open Art Studio: Alphabet Artist with Sara Barlow

Explore making art using 2-D and 3-D objects and images to make unique letter art!

Open Art Studio is free with regular museum admission or membership and will be taught by local artist Sara Barlow of Sara Barlow Designs. Sara Barlow is a multi-disciplinary visual artist from Peoria, Illinois. Her passion lies in experimenting with different media, especially handcraft and computer aided design. Sara experienced a partial loss of sensation in her hands and feet in college, which inspired her to work with different senses, memory, and human connection.

Maker Workshop: Birdhouse Basics

Maker Workshop: Birdhouse Basics

Fee includes museum admission. Adults attend free with regular admission.

Kids and families learn to use tools, experiment with different types of making, and think creatively in PlayHouse Maker Workshops! This program is designed for kids 3-12 years old. All children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult. Registration is required and closes the Wednesday prior to the workshop.

In this workshop, use lumber as well as vintage, natural and recycled materials to build an amazing backyard home for a feathered friend.

People We Love Day

Open Art Studio: Pint-sized Printmakers with Chloe McEldowney

Join local artist Chloe McEldowney to make your own monotype prints! Explore mark-making and color while using a wide variety of traditional and non-traditional tools, such as forks, cotton swabs, paintbrushes, fabric, and more.

Chloe is originally from Ohio. In 2015, Chloe moved to Peoria and became a resident artist at the Prairie Center of the Arts, enjoying a year of painting, printmaking, volunteering, and teaching. She currently has a home studio in Peoria, IL, where she creates colorful oil paintings, prints, and drawings that explore light vs. shadow, and opacity vs. transparency, through expressive marks. Her work can be found here: http://chloemceldowney.com/

Join us for a day of fun in Glen Oak Park! On July 3rd the PlayHouse will be open to all from noon-5, and during those hours enjoy $3 admission to Peoria Zoo and PlayHouse. Food trucks will be available and starting at 4 pm, enjoy performances by the Children’s Community Theater, JC and the Redemption and the Peoria Municipal Band, with a special presentation by the American Legion & Color Guard.

Please note, there will be $5 parking fee starting at noon to enter Glen Oak Park!

In this workshop, get acquainted with the materials used for this beautiful style of painting, and then learn the basics of layering, washing, and softening to create a unique and colorful work of art to take home.

Magic Carpet: Reenie Charriere at the PlayHouse

Join artist Reenie Charriere, visiting from San Francisco, to create art on the PlayHouse porch! From July 23-August 3, children and families are invited to help create “Magic Carpet,” an original work of art, and to make their own sculptures and wearable art.

This program is made possible by a grant from The Arts Mean Business Fund and the Community Impact Fund of the Community Foundation of Central Illinois.
