Yoga for Kids

Join Vickie from the RiverPlex and explore mindfulness through yoga, play, stories, and games. Everything in these classes can be easily adapted to enjoy at home, too!

Feel free to bring a yoga mat of your own or used one of ours. Comfortable clothing and socks are suggested.

Spaces are first come serve, the class is limited to 10 spaces for children.Best for ages 3 – 10 years old. Children under 8 should have adult supervision. Adults are invited to participate at no cost.

Maker Workshop: Object Bots
Sep 7 @ 2:00 pm – 4:00 pm

Construct a basic robot out of everyday household objects and recycled materials and then check out its moves!

In PlayHouse Maker Workshops, kids and families learn to use tools, experiment with different types of making, and think creatively! This program is designed for kids 3-12 years old. All children under 8 must be accompanied by an adult.

 

How to register:

  • Register in person at the PlayHouse, by phone at (309) 323-6900, or online. Those who are Explorer Members must register in person at the PlayHouse.
  • Members will receive their discount by entering the code:  PH2019MW at checkout online. Current membership status will be verified.
  • Registration closes the Wednesday prior to the workshop.

The PlayHouse has switched to a new program registration system. Celebrate Peoria: Kilts to Kimonos

What we wear and why can say so much about who we are. Explore cultural and religious fashions worn by the people in the greater Peoria area. Try on clothes like a sari or hijab, enjoy a multicultural fashion show, and more!

Activities are free with museum admission or membership.

The PlayHouse offers STEAM Homeschool classes in which students explore careers related to science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics. Hands-on activities included!

In collaboration with Easter Seals and Heart of Illinois Special Recreation Association (HISRA), join us for a fun, sensory-friendly night featuring dimmer lights and less noise. Open to children of all needs and abilities!

  • Open to children of all needs and abilities
  • Parents and siblings welcome!
  • Sounds and lights will be lowered
  • Sensory Packs with noise canceling headphones, sensory toys, sunglasses, and other materials are always available at the front desk
  • Quiet area will be available

Pre-registration is encouraged.

Join us to BE ANYTHING! at the Peoria PlayHouse Children’s Museum! In September we are inspired by the PlayHouse exhibit Peoria Then and Now to look at community jobs:

Teacher Team Application Deadline

Deadline to apply is September 30, 2019 for the 2019-2020 Teacher Team on makerspaces in the classroom.

The PlayHouse Teacher Team is a group of up to 15 educators, who come together regularly throughout the school year to contribute to and transform the PlayHouse and also explore hands on activities for their classrooms.

 

Between October and April, the PlayHouse Teacher Team will address questions about creating makerspaces for early childhood and elementary school students. Workshops will be held on the last Wednesdays of the month from 4-6 pm.

Tot Time: Numbers

During this program for children 1 to 3 years of age and their grown-ups, children develop language, small motor skills, and social skills while engaging in hands-on exploration. Each class includes songs and musical instruments, a read-aloud story, time for play, and a visual art activity.

Numbers help us keep track of so many things. Do you know how old you are? How many cookies you have? What time of day it is? We can use numbers to answer all of these questions!

The event is emceed by WMBD’s Greg Batton, and tickets include two complimentary drinks as well as heavy hors d’oeuvres from Cracked Pepper.
