August Moon Festival is celebrated in Greece on the day of the full moon in August. The August Moon is the brightest moon of the year. In addition, this year August is special because we get to experience a once-in-a-blue-moon event with TWO full August moons, and they will both be SUPERmoons!
Join us at the Peoria PlayHouse as we host a special moon-themed story time and art activity this Sunday, August 6th in the Art Room from 12:30-3:30pm.
This program is free with the price of admission.
The Fall is a special time for many folks who identify as belonging to the Hispanic or Latinx culture.
Papel Picado is a way to decorate during times of fun and fiesta. We will learn about the history read a short bi-lingual story and have a fun time during this Culturally Connected Celebration!

How far can you chuck a mini pumpkin? Join the Peoria PlayHouse in the Makerspace at the Noble Center for an afternoon of fun as we work to create mini pumpkin launch devices using recycled materials, imagination, and problem-solving skills!
Advance registration is required.

Maker Collaborations is a partnership between the Peoria PlayHouse Children’s Museum and various Peoria Park District facilities focusing on MAKING WITH A PURPOSE. These special collaborations will bring together various Peoria Park District Facilities at the Peoria PlayHouse Makerspace at the Noble Center to offer families the opportunity to work on projects that will be utilized at various sites, such as creating animal enrichment for the Peoria Zoo and bird feeders for Forest Park Nature Center! A PPD staff member will lead a short content presentation about the project and then children and families will utilize the makerspace to complete their projects. All families will be encouraged to go visit their projects “in the wild” once they are installed/being utilized the Saturday after the program takes place!

Be Anything! just got a major upgrade!
This year, the Peoria Park District is doing something extra special and combining our Worldwide Day of Play with our Be Anything event and auction! Your family can come out and see the awesome talent and unique capabilities of the Peoria area.
We are working with several community partners to offer job shadowing experiences in healthcare, education, engineering, and all kinds of fun and amazing jobs. The opportunity of Be Anything! will bring something not offered anywhere else!
There are two ways your family can participate in Be Anything!
- Attend the magical day on May 11th from 10 am to 2 pm in Glen Oak Park for our World Wide Day of Play & Be Anything!
- Participate in our auction, open from May 5-11th, and give your child the chance to learn all about the cool things you get to do in one of our unique career opportunities.

Get ready for a creepy-crawly culinary adventure! Join us on June 23rd at the PlayHouse for Bugs for Dinner, where we’re flipping the script on traditional dining. Dr. Hunter from ISU is buzzing over to share her worm farm wonders and dish out fascinating insights into bug-based cuisine that will make your taste buds tingle! But that’s not all – we’re transforming the cave area of the PlayHouse into a bug bonanza with a temporary exhibit featuring preserved bugs and interactive bug facts for hands-on exploration. It’s a bug-tastic event you won’t want to miss!
